As a premier L-series lens, it features a complex optical path including UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) elements and aspherical glass to maintain surgical sharpness even when shooting wide open. To handle the large glass elements, it uses a powerful ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) for fast and nearly silent autofocus. While it is a significant piece of glass at over 1.4 kg, its build quality is uncompromising—fully weather-sealed and treated with Air Sphere (ASC) and Subwavelength (SWC) coatings to virtually eliminate flare. It also features the signature RF customizable Control Ring, putting precision adjustments for exposure right at your fingertips.
